The Cane Corso Italiano can now formally participate in Lure Coursing through the UKC. While it's only a test, it's something our breed should've be known for from the beginning. It's a sport where we could have our dogs run through different courses before but only at certain locations left up to the organizers. I know some APBT owners who were allowed to run their dogs for the fun of it in upper IN and some Corso owners in FL but now it is a recognized test.

This is something that should be an intregal part of the gene pool.

Leave it to such a true breed performance minded group as the UKC to make this available.

That is great news. I know Marvin Allen did lure coursing with one of his corsos about 8 years ago. He said they were shocked to see a Cane Corso who could do it. Bad news his dog pulled something in the process. I think that was the end of his Lure Coursing blink.gif

I can't wait to test my dogs!

Good find Storm. Thanks for the research. I can't wait to find out more about this sport. It appears to be a lot of fun.

No doubt about it, Marvin was was one of the pioneers for the working Corso being recognized and a very nice and helpful guy as well.
I believe this will catch on dramatically once it gets out to more locations in the future. Since many breeds have the inclination to chase anyway and it was one of the reasons our breed was named after this ability, Corso owners will find it's a huge interest to their dogs and a good test for stock as well.

The UKC said there will be a Coursing Aptitude and a Coursing Test. We can't run in the regular stakes (yet) but this is another big step forward for the Corso that no other organization has taken for our breed.

That is good news! I hope to see it on the east coast!

Roy - I think they use a plastic bag or handkerchief and the rope system is on pullies run by a generator.

On the SACCI working points page the UKC Working Events should be at the top of the list since we are (the) UKC Club.

Virtually nobody participates in the AKC working events from the AKC Parent Club especially when compared to the UKC competitors even in conformation. Now that AKC acceptance is here that could change but it won't happen in the working department.

I pledge to become a club member before the year is out.........so please don't Ban me for posting here unsure.gif

Is anyone going to Indy this weekend for the LC?.....I have intentions on being there at least Friday

we can race for "PINKS" laugh.gif laugh.gif

We're like nomads,so we just plan on rolling on in,in the AM sometime ...and rolling out by nightfall...We won't have much of a "setup" at all..just a car and a crate

If I see some Corso i recognize,or especially a Society Member........expect me to approach you guys like long lost cousins!

If this is the same fairgrounds that I visited a few years ago when I was sent to Indianapolis by my job......the place is IMMENSE....for comparison,it is easily 3-4 times larger than the MI. state fairgrounds.

Two things taken from post #11 above from a week ago. This would eventually get buried since we don't log on everyday so I planned to bring it up again, this being as good of a time as any:

How often does the Working Committee make changes to the accepted events and how much they're worth?

.
The only reason the AKC points are on top of the points list because I made the list in Excel and it's sorted alphabetically for convenience
.
Scott and Jeff are planning on being there and entering dogs in LC. Since both are on the Working Committee they should get a good feeling for the event and the point value that should be awarded. I believe Jeff is planning on taking some video also.

That's the best way to grade it...look forward to the results of the trip and especially video.
There should probably be 3-4 Corsi there.

Lil tee, we will be in Indiana tomorrow for the lure coursing event. We only registered for Friday. Depending on how it goes we will try Saturday as well. I am really excited to try out the Lure Coursing. I think it will be fun if the temperature holds out for us. It has been over 90 degrees the last couple of days. Jeff Hall is planning on going as well and bringing a video recorder. Hopefully we can get several Corsos on video. My main worry is that the field is open with no fence around it. Hope there are not any little Scooby snacks wandering around ringside. Looking forward to meeting you there lil tee.

Storm and Trinity. There has been some discussion within the working committee on adding points for lure coursing since it is a new UKC event. One of the main reasons that I wanted to participated while in Indiana was to have first hand experience on how it works. We are currently looking at the requirements for earning the title and will soon decide on the details of adding Lure Coursing to our working dog of the year points.

I know there will be some from the population who would divert off course if they missed a tight turn and we would hate to hear whoever it is decided Miss Rutherfords Foo-Foo yapper looked easier to catch than that fast running rabbit on the line.

The greatest concern is the UKC regreting the involvement of other breeds entering this due to some unforeseen future competitor with zero training or just a fluke of events happening.
