In PSA, there are no retrieves, jumps or wall in the obedience like Schutzhund. Actually, levels 2 and 3 both require jumps and retrieves. Retrieve, I don't think, is over a jump but I do know that it's with a wierd random object. No walls tho -------------------- stark1ang@aol.com

No walls tho I thought that the jumps and retrieves in levels II & III were part of the protection exercise and not the obedience. I never trained for the upper levels of PSA so, thanks for the clarification. That's right PSA does have the tunnels as well, I do remember seeing that in the PSA level II performance and there is a wall in level III (just looked at the rules LOL Schutzhund has jumps and retrieves in all levels except for the temperament test the BH. -------------------- Conformation tests the form and protection sports test the function of a breed. That's right PSA does have the tunnels as well, I do remember seeing that in the PSA level II performance. It has been a while. PSA is a great sport. Schutzhund has jumps and retrieves in all levels except for the temperament test the BH. Believe me, Im not to that point in training. I only know because I went to a couple of trials recently and watched the upper levels. LOL -------------------- stark1ang@aol.com

Yes retrieves and jumps are required, they have to be able to retrieve anything, they do not use metal though that stopped.

Ok Erik, I found out from Jerry Bradshaw's web site and from the K9 pro sport guys that some of the PSA founders did compete in K9 pro sports when it first started. However, the K9 Pro Sport guys acknowledge that the two sports are both entirely different and they like both.

I've always heard about the 2 having a common yet seperate bridge of the past (in the formation of PSA) and that's where the gray started. I'm glad to hear they were good sports about the info and I agree and like both as well. |

"Protection dog sport people can be intense so sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and sigh...LOL", That's a very nice way to put that Mari, I can't agree more and Tiffany you and Ronin sound like a good team who are going to make your mark in the long haul. Keep the faith and keep working as it sounds like you aren't being deterred at all. It's always good to see our breed as well as a few others doing well at these sports. There was an ABD and Monte had his Giant Schnuazers (sp) who placed in their respective categories at the AWDF Nationals I had the honor to witness a couple of years ago. Monte made it with one of his to Europe as well. I don't know how high your goals are but if you're able to harness training through lifes crazy scheduling which at times can be very difficult and keep direct focus on those goals there is no telling how far you and Ronin can go. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here (if you know the real PSA history), not opinions. Two guys, I don't recall their names now since it's been quite a few years since hearing them, spent a weekend or more with Butch, picking his brain about many things that deal with protection, guard work, rules and regulations of current sports of that time and PSA was born soon after that. Was PSA a spin-off, directly assumed from K-9 Prosport. I've heard different thoughts on this so why not find a few more if possible. Any new idea's here? This is what I know about K9PS and PSA. The founders of PSA, Joe Morris and Jerry use to compete in K9PS. Joe Morris was someone I knew, I use to be a member of his club back 2002 when he was still living. (off the subject, Joe thought all Corsos was some junk I did hear the same thing about Joe and Jerry spent a day in a hotel picking Butch's brain about how to hold events, etc. Very shortly after that PSA was started. I wasn't there so I don't know. That's just what I heard. Who really cares! Just get out there a get your feet wet in any dog sport you and your dog likes. Like can turn into Love. Be careful don't get bit by the dog sport bug! lol It just may cost you some time, money and hard work! Ismail SACCI WORKING DIR www.DreamTeamKennels.com |
